From November 1st 2022 to April 2nd 2023, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will host the temporary exhibition, Lives of the Gods: Divinity in Maya Art.

This exhibition brings together nearly 100 rarely-seen masterpieces and recent discoveries in diverse media—from the monumental to the miniature—that depict episodes in the life cycle of the gods from the regions of Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will witness pieces that represent the continuous life of these divinities, from the moment of their birth to resplendent transformations as blossoming flowers or fearsome creatures of the night.

To learn more about the exhibition, see the virtual tour where Mexican archeologist Dr. Laura Filloy explains what there is to know about Maya art to the Consul General of Mexico in New York, Jorge Islas López.
