For the second consecutive year, Mexico Week: Día de los Muertos, took place at Rockefeller Center from October 27 through November 2, 2022, in celebration of Mexico’s heritage and culture. New Yorkers engaged in Mexican art, food, culture, music, and education.
This Día de Muertos celebration incorporated traditional and modern art by prominent Mexican artists displayed for the public to enjoy, which included:
An ofrenda on Center Plaza, presented by Tequila Casa Dragones and INTERprotección with the support of Museo de Arte Moderno. The ofrenda honored modern Mexican sculptors as presented in the book MONUMENTAL
Large Jaguar & Quetzalcoatl sculptures by Cesar Menchaca that accompanied the Center Plaza ofrenda.
Hichol Catrina sculptures (skeleton figures synonymous with Dia de Muertos) by Cesar Menchaca on view at Top of the Rock.
Giant Skull by Mexican artist Enrique Cabrera at 30 Rockefeller, Lobby.
Exhibition in memory of the 170th Anniversary of Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada (1852-1913). Presented by the Consulate General of Mexico in New York and its Cultural Institute in alliance with Posada’s Art Foundation and Aguascalientes.
A public exhibition of the book MONUMENTAL.
Tianguis, or open-air market, featuring authentic Mexican food, handcrafted artisanal goods, textiles, and Casa Dragones Tequila.
First Day of the Dead Walk was organized by the Consulate General of Mexico in New York.
