  In honor of “Cinco de Mayo”, Consul General, Jorge Islas López commenced the day by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the world's most important stock exchange. Following this symbolic gesture, the Consulate of Mexico, in collaboration with Queens Chronicle News (QC_News) and the Mexican Consulate in New York (consulmexNuy), embarked on a journey of cultural celebration, participating in the "¡Viva El Cinco de Mayo!" festival. Here, Mexican folk artists delighted the audience with performances that ignited the spirit of festivity and unity. Consul General Jorge Islas López's opening message underscored the occasion's significance, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to honor Mexico's rich cultural heritage and national identity.

As part of the Cinco de Mayo commemoration, that afternoon Consul General Jorge Islas López led the traditional flag-raising ceremony at Bowling Green Park, alongside esteemed guests, including New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Ambassador Héctor Vasconcelos, Mexico's representative to the United Nations (UN). This act served as a poignant tribute to the historical significance of the day and a reaffirmation of the enduring bonds between Mexico and the United States.

Against the vibrant backdrop of Times Square, the heart of New York City, the festivities continued with a meticulously organized celebration of Cinco de Mayo. This special event, orchestrated by the Consulate of Mexico, brought together members of the community to commemorate this significant date through a dynamic showcase of Mexican culture. From music to cuisine and a myriad of engaging activities, the essence of Mexico permeated the atmosphere, creating an immersive experience that resonated with attendees of all backgrounds.

As the day unfolded, the melodies of Mariachi Real de México de Ramón Ponce filled the air, accompanied by the captivating performances of the Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de New York and the exceptional musical talent of Tlen Huicani. These cultural ambassadors transported spectators on a journey through Mexico's rich artistic traditions, further enhancing the vibrancy of the celebration.

Such a momentous occasion would not have been possible without the generous collaboration and support of various entities, including the New York City Department of Transportation, Times Square Alliance, and the Governments of Puebla, Puerto Vallarta, and Jalisco, as well as Ferrero, the City University of New York (CUNY) - Mexican Studies Institute, and CFE-i.
